Abstract

Multiplier farms are critical for transmitting genetic progress from nucleus herds to commercial production, yet inconsistent compliance can limit realized gains. This study evaluated the impact of enhanced genetic program adherence, implemented in late 2023, on reproductive performance and genetic dissemination within a large commercial system.Data from 3,881 parity 1 females (2023-2025) were analyzed using longitudinal trends and pedigree-based genetic evaluation. Total born per litter at the multiplier farm increased from 14.85 in 2023 to 15.72 in 2025 (+6.3%), coinciding with improved compliance protocols. Forecasts indicate continued gains into 2026. Stratification by health status (HS2 vs HS3) showed both lines improved, with HS2 maintaining a slightly higher mean (15.51 vs 15.29; p < 0.001), though the practical effect size was small (≈0.22 piglets).Improved genetic potential of replacement gilts sent to commercial farms was reflected in gilt total born trends: -0.06 pigs (2023 vs. 2024) and +0.91 pigs (2024 vs. 2025), indicating recovery after initial variability. Compliance monitoring through monthly visits and data audits reduced protocol deviations by >20%, improving data accuracy and index calculation reliability.Genetic analysis using an animal model estimated phenotypic variance (Vp = 13.43), additive genetic variance (Va ≈ 3.63), and heritability (h² ≈ 0.27), confirming moderate genetic control and substantial opportunity for improvement through selection and protocol compliance. These findings demonstrate that rigorous genetic program implementation at multiplier farms enhances reproductive performance, improves genetic potential of commercial replacements, and accelerates dissemination of genetic progress throughout commercial systems.
