Abstract

The object of this project is to design a capsule collectionfor professional women over fifty with an over-arching theme of sustainabilitybased on the research of sustainability expert, Kate Fletcher and sociologist, JuliaTwigg. Based on their research, women in this cohort have specific styling andfit concerns.  They also have thedisposable income which allows them to purchase more expensive, higher qualityand longer lasting garments.  Garmentdesign are based on these concerns along with natural fiber fabrics whoseserviceability characteristics include that of helping to regulate bodytemperature, a cause for concern for women in the stages of menopause.  Fletcher’s “ideology of use” suggest thatgarment durability is rooted in satisfying activities around the wearing of thegarment and resourcefulness related to it, as opposed to the specific technicaldurability of the garment.  Smallbooklets will accompany each garment with suggested wearing possibilities andactivities.
