Late Cenozoic non-marine molluscan associations in eastern North America

Abstract

The significance of fossil assemblages must be evaluated by comparison with living associations. In the case of Pieistocene assemblages, there is an abundance of data of this nature in the literature but they are not easily accessible for two reasons: first, they are widely scattered, and second, their nomenclature has varied enormously over the·last hundred years, . During the course of several investigations by the writer and his colleagues the need for making such comparisons has led to the preparation of data from many scattered sources, both published and unpublished, which are presented here. The lists in this report are given in a uniform classification which follows as closely as possible the currently accepted pattern.
