Abstract

As a 2024 participant in the Data Services Continuing Professional Education (DSCPE) program, the speaker was paired with mentors at University of Minnesota Libraries for a 10-week project. The project’s scope consisted of determining how to better integrate the CARE Principles for Indigenous Data Governance into the Data Repository for University of Minnesota (DRUM) and its policies and practices. The project deliverables consisted of developing search terms related to Indigenous data in Minnesota; an audit of DRUM datasets to capture the level of Indigenous consent that was given to share data publicly; and a report of recommendations for DRUM based on findings. This lightning talk will present the findings of this project, which is only an initial step in ensuring Indigenous data sovereignty.
