This is a Activity/Lab and has not been peer reviewed. This is version 1 of this Activity/Lab.
This Applied Learning Activity (ALA) accompanies chapter 9, Recurrent Selection, in Plant Breeding Methods. Its purpose it to work towards designing and evaluating a recurrent selection breeding program for Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.), how interactive selection and controlled recombination can simultaneously improve multiple traits. This ALA aligns with breeding decisions with classical recurrent selection theory, including Cycle 0 population design, selection intensity, poly crossing, and maintenance of genetic diversity. The Applied Learning Activities (ALAs) and recommended readings were developed with funding provided by CIMMYT’s USAID-VACS Coalition Project under Subgrant #DCP_2025_216.
