This is a Activity/Lab and has not been peer reviewed. This is version 1 of this Activity/Lab.
This Applied Learning Activity (ALA) accompanies chapter 2, Novel Traits from Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology, in Plant Breeding Methods. Its purpose is to help learners develop an understanding to critically analyze a genetic transformation experiment by evaluating experimental design choices, interpreting molecular verification methods, and exploring how genome editing technologies can be applied to improve taro traits. In doing so, students are encouraged to connect modern biotechnology tools with real-world challenges in crop improvement, particularly in underutilized but locally important species. The Applied Learning Activities (ALAs) and recommended readings were developed with funding provided by CIMMYT’s USAID-VACS Coalition Project under Subgrant #DCP_2025_216.
