Automation Matters
- Paul Hedges
Abstract
The World Wide Web has arrived and archival institutions are embracing this technology in astounding numbers. Where did the World Wide Web come from? What is this web stuff? How does it help archives meet their institutional mandates? And most importantly, why is everyone creating new words by adding “web” to the beginning of them? Well, read on and I’ll try to answer some of these questions. Oh, I almost forgot. All you webmasters, webgurus, and supreme web beings out there should probably pass on this column. I am going to explain this in very basic terms, leaving out some finer and possibly important points about developments on the web. Onward! (Or is it webward?)
