President’s Page

Abstract
If you missed the meeting in Topeka/Lawrence you missed a classic MAC gathering. Over 210 people attended. Beginning with Dr. Walter Menninger’s plenary on the subjectivity of human memory through to the end the sessions contained some challenging and entertaining papers. Thanks to the Program Committee (headed by Sharron Uhler and Becky Schulte, plus Liz Clancy and Deb Saito from SRMA), the sessions featured an excellent blend of MAC and SRMA archivists. In addition to a mingling of the minds there was, of course, social mingling too. The Thursday night barbecue featured the memorable visions of MACers learning to line dance and not one but two presidents wearing silly hats. Archivist of the United States John Carlin made a few remarks at the Friday reception, and stayed for an hour to speak informally with attendees. The Local Arrangements committee (headed by Sheryl Williams and Pat Michaelis) ensured that attendees were never far from coffee and cookies between sessions, and that all the logistics were handled flawlessly. The folks beginning preparation for the Mad City MAC conference next fall have a lot to live up to.
