MAC Council Fiscal Planning Meeting
- Mark A. Greene
Abstract
It was probably not how we would have chosen to spend a warm sunny day on the Kansas plains if we had any choice. For over eight hours Council delved into the intricacies (some might say mysteries) of the MAC budget and fiscal management policy. Deliberations were aided by Bill Maher, whom Council invited specifically to share both his experience (as past Treasurer and President) and his opinions about MAC’s financial situation. The meeting was called to address a “problem”—MAC has seen its assets grow far beyond that needed for fiscal security. As Bill Maher said, “this is the right kind of problem to have”; still, for a service‑oriented organization, piling up assets beyond a certain point seemed to be poor stewardship of members’ money.
