Abstract
The Vital Records Department, formed approximately one and a half years ago, was given the monumental task of organizing, inventorying, and indexing Blackford County records from about 1831 (nine years before the county was formed) to the present. The main objectives of the department were to develop a retention schedule for all county offices, to microfilm vital and historical documents, to dispose of non‑vital and non‑historical documents, and to open the area for basic research and genealogy.
