Abstract

I have been a records manager almost as long as I have been an archivist. For me, the two professions have always been easy to combine since both are concerned with the care and control of information through its life cycle. For a records manager, advantages to having an archival background include the ability to provide comprehensive assistance to departments regarding their records—how to create records, whether the correct information is being created, how to identify archival records, and how to select the appropriate media to insure they will last in perpetuity at the least possible cost to the organization.
