Abstract

The archives of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU’s) are a gold mine of resources regarding the African American experience in higher education from the late Nineteenth Century through the mid–Twentieth Century. In these collections researchers can find materials documenting the people and events surrounding national issues such as Reconstruction, the Jim Crow era, and the African American struggle for civil rights, as well as information regarding the people and events surrounding the founding and development of HBCU’s themselves.
