Abstract
In this column I would like to combine preservation and disaster response issues to discuss potential problems that are encountered during construction and renovation projects. Although this sounds like a disaster response/prevention issue, construction projects can also wreak havoc on carefully stabilized environmental conditions in both general and special collections. In addition, over 75% of all disasters occur when the building is being worked on. Let’s look at a real life disaster that occurred this winter.
