Abstract
The spring meeting turned out to be one of the best attended MAC meetings ever, with final registration at 352. Both the local arrangements and the program were—it almost goes without saying—excellent. I fact, two people told me it was overall the best MAC meeting they had ever attended. Unfortunately, due to my own error, the members of the LAC and Program Committee were not thanked publicly during the business meeting for their hard and good work. I want to apologize for that—and rectify it here—for two reasons. One is that the LAC and PC did a particularly good job this spring. The other is that notwithstanding MAC’s complete dependence on dedicated volunteer labor we do often take that volunteer effort for granted. Several otherwise unrelated issues have been raised over the past year or so that are connected by proposals to change the nature and direction of the volunteer work on which MAC depends; elsewhere in this newsletter I have tried to identify and clarify those issues, and I hope you will give some thought to them and let me know your reaction.
