Reparative Work and the Importance of Representation in the Field
- Matrice Young
Abstract
Special collections and archives, particularly in the United States, have always been Eurocentric. Collections primarily document individuals and groups that represent the majority culture, which tends to be white, able-bodied, neurotypical, heteronormative, and male. And yet, the United States is among the most diverse cultures, as it contains people from a variety of different backgrounds and experiences. They should be represented in our historical records. We all should.
