Abstract
Chaos! One would think the very word should be anathema to archivists and banned from archival literature. Is this not the antithesis of what we try to do on a daily basis as we manage society' s documentary heritage? This may be true, but the so-called "new science" of chaos may offer several useful metaphors for archivists and possibly a basis for new theoretical approaches to archival work.
