Abstract

At the age of 47, Dione Miles, the wife of history professor, Richard Miles, and the mother of seven children, returned to college. It was a courageous decision on her part, for twenty-one years had passed since 1948 when she received her Bachelor of Arts in history, with honors, from Kalamazoo College, a degree which had taken nine years to complete because of the time out she had taken for marriage, the birth of three children, and the 3-1/2 year separation from her husband imposed by his service in World War II. It proved a fortuitous decision for the archival profession and the world of scholarship and learning.
