Abstract
Each year, as I ride the Saturday evening train home from the Chicago MAC meeting, the openness and emptiness of the Illinois prairie reminds me of the great distances that separate most midwestern archivists from all but a handful of their colleagues. The train ride has become an important part of the annual MAC meeting because it gives me time to reflect on all that I have learned by getting together with so many talented archival colleagues.
