MAC Sends Letter to Senator Bunning

Abstract

Early in October 2007, SAA President Mark Greene wrote to MAC President Dennis Meissner in the hope that MAC would support SAA's effort to promote Senate passage of the bill (HR 1255) to re-establish the Presidential Records Act over President Bush's 2001 Executive Order 13233. SAA has been working for the overturn of 13233 since its issuance, including testifying at a House hearing last winter. But, as of October, Senator Jim Bunning (R-KY) had put a personal hold on the bill, which had already been reported out of committee and was awaiting action by the full Senate. Council directed the president to send Senator Bunning a letter on its behalf, urging him to remove his hold on the bill and to allow it to move to the Senate floor in short order. Here is the text of the letter that was faxed to the senator.
