If You Build It, Will They Come? User-Generated Content in Archives
- Angela O'Neal
Abstract
The popularity of social networking Web sites and user-generated content, especially high-profile sites such as Flickr, YouTube, and MySpace, has changed the way people interact with the Internet. Many have argued that it is just this level of interaction that fulfills the original promise of the Web. Ten years ago, dial-up networks could not have supported photo-sharing and video sites, but the spread of high-speed networks has expanded capabilities. While Web use has never been a passive activity, the level of potential interactivity now available can sometimes be overwhelming. Time magazine recognized this growing trend recently when it named "You" the 2006 Person of the Year.
