An Appraisal of Reference Services in Major University Archives and Special Collections

---

Abstract

Each year, the University of Kentucky (UK) Libraries' Special Collections and Digital Programs (SCDP) hosts a graduate assistantship funded by the local chapter of the Colonial Dames of America. The assistantship assignment this year is to work with the Archives department as it addresses reorganization and long-term planning. As the Colonial Dames graduate assistant for 2005-2006, I assisted Director of Archives Lisa Carter on an assessment of our benchmarks and an investigation into archival reference issues.
