PRESERVATION ESSENTIALS
- Marta O'Neill (National Personnel Records Center)
Abstract
What, do you ask, is a PEM? It's short for Preservation Environmental Monitor, a fairly new device designed and distributed by the Image Permanence Institute (IPI), http://www.imagepermanenceinstitute.org/. Unlike standard scientific data loggers, the PEM utilizes software, copyrighted under the tide "Climate Notebook," to quickly calculate, analyze, and display temperature and humidity data in a format particularly applicable to cultural institutions.
