MAC 2002 Minority Scholarship Award Recipient

Abstract
While attending the 2001 Gates Millennium Scholars Conference, I became enthralled with the message espoused by the keynote speaker. When Khafre Abif, the Director of the Langston Hughes Library, addressed the need for diversity in the library science profession, he affirmed my career decision of becoming an archivist. After his talk, Brother Abif (as he prefers to be called) wholeheartedly encouraged me to pursue my dream of being an archivist as he stated there is even less minority representation in the archival management profession than in the library science profession. As an archivist, I am confident that I can contribute to researchers as I assist them with their quest for information. In addition, I aspire to be a role model to African-Americans and other minorities who have not considered this diverse and interesting profession as a career.
