Abstract

Why, you may ask, does a discussion of pottery reach a column devoted to archive preservation? In recent years a frequent topic in the print literature, on Listservs, and in the myriad programs and workshops we are rushing to attend is, among others, the highly relevant topic of electronic records preservation, which should, of course, be expected. Unfortunately (or is it fortunately?), we are asked to preserve many other unusual records and objects that can, in some situations, take up as much of our time as those degrading disks and tapes, left at our doorstep each day.
