The Useable Past: Teaching the New History

Abstract
The featured speaker at the opening session of the Midwest Archives Conference in Chicago, March 21-23, 1974, was Stanley N. Katz, Professor of Legal History at the University of Chicago. Mr. Katz spoke on the topic, "The Useable Past: Teaching the 'New History.'" His talk related to his involvement with other history professors at the University of Wisconsin from 1965-1971, in developing an introductory American history course in which undergraduate students utilized original source materials in their studies.
