Models for GIS User Tools

Abstract

As we play our parts through history and look to the future, we are, for better or worse, inextricably tied to our physical environment. Maps provide the visual means of understanding those connections, and they are valuable to a variety of audiences for wide-ranging uses. The digital age has not only expanded our ability to share and access traditional map forms, it has provided us with the means of gathering and analyzing vast amounts of data through geographical information systems (GIS). This bounty, however, carries with it the challenge of making it meaningful to researchers, to provide context for understanding.
