Abstract
My first experience with computers was as an undergraduate student. I took the introductory computer science class, which consisted of drawing flowcharts, learning to program in Basic (although the instructor kept throwing in COBAL and Fortran for good measure), and working with punch cards and the big mainframe, which dominated a section of the communications building. If it weren't for two friends who were computer science majors, I would never have passed the class.
