On the Need to Collect the Web

Abstract

The Web has created opportunities for information access and sharing that affect all aspects of our lives. In doing so, it offers important and unique insight into our organizations and culture —holding bits and pieces of the historical record that reflect our time. Unfortunately, collecting this historical record and applying archival principals and practice to it is difficult and often too technically challenging for many archival programs. As a result, the Web is often bypassed as a source of historical records.
