Thank You, MAC
- Kit Hughes
Abstract
My hands were sore; the stinging radiated from my palms to the tips of my fingers after several rounds of clapping at the Members’ Meeting—for the Program Committee, new members, students, first-time attendees, and striking cheese-head videography. The palpable sense of community and excitement was well beyond what I generally associate with a professional conference. Before we left that room, other indicators signaled MAC’s concern for community: a unanimous vote to increase dues to strengthen the organization, an extended conversation about access and students, nametags that emphasized first names rather than honorific titles, and a charge to established members to seek out new attendees.
