Thank You, MAC
- Brianna Marshall
Abstract
I have attended a fair number of conferences as a graduate student, but my experience at MAC was unique because of the level of intentional engagement attendees had with graduate students. This was clear throughout the meeting, starting with the opening remarks by Ellen Swain. When she noted the high number of graduate students in attendance, people cheered! I couldn’t believe it. Archivists demonstrated this same warmth and openness many times during the conference when they introduced themselves and struck up conversations. I want to emphasize that this isn’t the norm—conferences can be extremely intimidating for students. You’re never quite sure if you belong there, or if you’re just a nuisance. I’m happy to share that I felt very welcome at MAC. I imagine the other students in attendance would agree.
