Perceptions of Technical Communication among Students and Faculty in Technology Programs

Abstract

Onechallenge for educators of future technology and engineering managers, is toprovide students with the ability to communicate technical information. Thereis consensus that communication is considered critical for technicalprofessionals. Perceptions among faculty members and students in preparation,importance, and ability vary. The purpose of this article is to investigate thedifferences in perception of technical communication among faculty members andstudents in a technology program. The methodology used for this article was asurvey. Both the students and faculty members completed a questionnaire ontheir perceptions of technical communication. The results indicate thatstudents differ in their perceptions of their preparation and ability. Additionally,there is a difference in perception of technical communication skills betweenfaculty members and students.
