TY - JOUR AB - This paper reports the results of a self- evaluation survey of computer skills taken by students in introductory courses in the Department of Technology and the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at Illinois State University. The students were asked to rate their ability on tasks that included Windows file management, word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail and graphics imaging. The goal of this research is to improve the mastery of student computing skills by determining the competencies that should be taught in an introductory computer course. From the analysis of the self-competency survey the researchers are working to create and field-test a competency exam for incoming students. AU - Charles Duvel, Sharon S.
