The neural-network-based control scheme has been developed using a pulse width modulation technique. It is used to implement the energy-saving scheme of single- phase Induction motors, when they operate under no load or small duty-ratio load. The pulse width modulated AC chopper fed single phase induction motor is implemented using an Atmel 89C51microcontroller. The intention is to save energy in plants using induction motors. At no load, 58% of the energy can be saved that decreases with an increase in the load. The neural net- work is trained to estimate the required voltage at different load conditions. To provide the required data to train the neural network, a simulation program was written to obtain the duty ratio values at different load conditions. From the simulation results, it is seen that the pulse width modulated (PWM) AC chopper system has lesser harmonics than the phase controlled AC chopper system, and hence it is used in the present work. The neural network based closed-loop control scheme to implement the energy-saving of the single phase induction motor drive system is designed and presented. The possibility of energy saving is explored in loads like punching and drilling industries, where most of the induction motors run at no load.}, month = {1}, keywords = {electricity,electronics,energy}, issn = {2166-0123}, publisher={The Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering and Iowa State University Digital Press}, journal = {Journal of Industrial Technology} }
