Submission Checklist

Manuscripts must be written in standard American English and prepared in accordance with the current Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (i.e. the current APA Formatting and Citation Guidelines) and the following guidelines.

JASHM does not have exact word count requirements. The ideal length for full-length research papers is around 10,000 words (including references) and for research notes is around 3,000 to 5,000 words (including references).

Two files are to be submitted: 1) title page, and 2) main document.

Title Page. The title page should contain the title of the submission, author’s name(s), affiliation information for each author and Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCiD) if available. ORCiDs will be included in the final article if published. The corresponding author should be clearly identified and mailing address and email address for the corresponding author must be provided. Please use the MS Word template, Title Page Template, to prepare and submit the title page.

Main Document. The main document (the body of the manuscript) includes the title, abstract (no more than 250 words), keywords (no more than six), text body (e.g. Introduction, Review of Literature, Methodology, Results and Discussions, Conclusions and Implications, and Limitations and Future Research, as appropriate), and references. Tables and figures should be embedded in the text following the paragraph of their first citation. The main document should not contain author identification or any information that might reveal the identify of the author(s). Authors are encouraged to use the MS Word template, Main Document Template, to prepare and submit their manuscripts. However, the template is not required for initial submissions. Authors can initially submit their manuscripts in MS Word document format (using APA style). Once a manuscript is accepted for publishing in JASHM, it is required that authors submit the final version using the template. Using the template will significantly reduce the amount of time needed for copy-editing and typesetting and ensure articles be published promptly after being accepted.

Competing Interests. To publish in JASHM, authors are required to declare any personal interest that could affect the representation and/or interpretation of research results. Authors also must declare the role of funding sponsors/agencies/organizations in any stage of the research project. If there are no Competing Interests, please enter "None."

Comments to the Editor. In addition to the Title Page and Main Document, authors can provide additional comments to the editor below. Authors can also indicate if the submission should be considered as a case study, book review, or report (any format other than a research article or research note).

Copyright Notice

By submitting to JASHM, authors confirm that a manuscript has not been published and will not be submitted simultaneously in other journals.

JASHM provides immediate open access to its articles. Author(s) retain copyright in their work and articles are published under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 4.0) license, which allows readers to copy, share, and adapt the article so long as the original article in JASHM is cited.

Authors of JASHM manuscripts who are including materials, often tables or figures, from other copyrighted sources must obtain permission to use these materials from the copyright holder. Acknowledgement of the use of this material and credit for the source of the material must be included in the manuscript.

Peer Review

JASHM employs a double anonymous review process. All submissions are initially reviewed by an editor for format, language, content, and merit. If the editor believes an article does not fit the scope of the journal and/or does not meet minimum quality standards, the editor will desk-reject the article. If the editor believes the article can be moved to the next level, two reviewers will be invited to review the article and provide feedback.

The reviewers will make one of four possible suggestions: accept, minor revision, major revision, or reject. If revisions are recommended, author(s) are encouraged to make revisions per the reviewers’ comments and suggestions, and resubmit the article for a second round of review. The same or different reviewers will perform the second round of review, or more reviews if multiple revisions are needed.

If the editor and reviewers believe an article has significant contribution but does not meet the publishing requirement for a full research paper, the editor might ask the author(s) to resubmit the manuscript as a research note with revisions per reviewers’ comments and suggestions. The same or different reviewers will review the research note.

Invited manuscripts do not go through the double anonymous peer review process. The editor and one reviewer will review the manuscript and provide comments and suggestions for revisions before publishing.

Licences

Journal of Aging Services and Hospitality Management allows the following licences for submission:

  • CC BY 4.0
Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use. No additional restrictions — You may not apply legal terms or technological measures that legally restrict others from doing anything the license permits.

Publication Fees

JASHM does not charge any publication fees.
