Use What You Have: Cross-Campus Collaboration for Effective Teaching

Authors: , ,

Abstract

With the increasing cost of education and the needs for high impact teaching strategies, it is critical for fashion merchandising instructors to be creative, seek resources, and identify alternative solutions, especially in small programs that lack the resources and financial support. In order to overcome these challenges and implement the Affordable Learning Solutions Initiative of the California State University system, the instructor of the Visual Merchandising course experimented with cross campus collaborations with the library on campus to provide students real life projects that cost students little or no money.  The findings of the study reveal that the collaboration benefited both the fashion students and librarians. It highlighted the important role that academic libraries can play in effective fashion education.
