My research findings from investigating methods to create color and imagery with plants on textiles inform applications for textile design. Coreopsis plants were pounded on jersey knit to create imagery and also used as the dyestuff along with chestnut. Reminiscent of the thermal and decorative quilted petticoat, fabrics were layered and free-motion stitched for thermal comfort with the plant imagery was revealed through reverse applique. The surface design conceptually portrays what is beneath the surface of winter's frozen ground as well as the research behind the coloration methods.
