Abstract

This study examines how design compromise emerges during 3D fashion design implementation and identifies practical strategies for reducing design compromise without altering original design intent. Although 3D virtual fashion systems are widely adopted for efficiency and sustainability, designers often encounter technical and expressive constraints that hinder faithful realization. Using an integrated framework combining systematic literature analysis, qualitative interviews with professional virtual fashion designers, and practice-based implementation in CLO3D, this study reveals that design compromise stems from a continuous tension between simulation precision and expressive fidelity. The findings demonstrate that strategic workflow adjustments including layered pattern construction, internal structural stabilization, and material parameter tuning can significantly mitigate design compromise while preserving intended form and expression. By clarifying the mechanisms of design compromise and offering actionable implementation strategies, this study contributes practical insight into enhancing expressive realization within 3D fashion design systems.
