Abstract

This conceptual paper proposes a model that conceptualizes the major challenges of incorporating visual generative AI into apparel design education, including accuracy issues, creativity constraints, and design stage challenges. This paper addresses these challenges by proposing strategies targeted to AI tools and student preparation that can support the seamless integration of visual generative AI into fashion education. This paper underscores the need for educators to actively a) promote AI-driven artistic integrity using appropriate fashion terminologies and construction education, b) integrate design theory and structured creative exercises, c) incorporate visual generative AI tools into the early design phase, and d) encourage iterative design with AI. For program developers, this study highlights the need to improve AI simulation accuracy and enhance human collaboration within generative AI programs.

Keywords: visual generative AI, simulation accuracy, visual literacy, human collaboration, design theory
