Abstract

The purpose of this project is to explore the integration of GenAI through collaborative teaching in fashion design studio-based courses, guided by the six-stage fashion design process from the FEA Consumer Needs Model to enhance both the creative design process and fashion design education with GenAI. Fashion design students were first introduced to various GenAI programs. Using a combination of these programs, students created AI-assisted digital fashion collections in a computer-based fashion design course. Subsequently, they selected designs from their AI-assisted fashion collections and constructed it as a physical garment in a fashion draping class. Upon completing the collaborative GenAI project, the instructors used post-survey questionnaires to collect student feedback and semi-structured interviews to gather deeper insights into students' learning experiences. Findings revealed that while some challenges were noted, the overall outcomes suggest that, when thoughtfully implemented, GenAI can enhance both innovation and student engagement in fashion design education.
