Her Algorithmic Beauty
Abstract
As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to evolve rapidly, more industries are leveraging it to generate original content and streamline production processes. However, this technological shift raises ethical concerns, particularly in how generative AI not only replicates but also amplifies existing societal biases related to race, gender, and beauty standards. This design is inspired by ethical concerns surrounding generative AI, particularly its influence on beauty standards. The ensemble consists of two modular components: a 3D-printed top and a digitally printed skirt. The top uses text prompts generated by ChatGPT in response to the phrase “a beautiful woman,” while the skirt features a pixelated female face generated with Midjourney, assembled from digitally printed fabric modules. Upon closer inspection, each module of the skirt contains an image of a real woman sourced from publicly available online content, which mirrors the way generative AI is trained on large, often biased datasets.
