Theory Usage in CTRJ from 2007-2024
Abstract
To evaluate the theories, models, frameworks, concepts, and perspectives used in the Clothing and Textiles Research Journal (CTRJ), this study employed content analysis to example all articles published between 2007-2024. Of the 364 articles published in CTRJ during those years, 248 (68.1%) incorporated at least one theory. Theories were found in articles 697 times, with 469 unique theories named. The most common theory was symbolic interactionism, which was found in 19 articles. Consumer behavior and social psychology were the tracks with the highest percentage of theory usage (98.6% and 94.4% of their articles, respectively). The track with the lowest number of articles using theory was textile science (4.2%). Eighty-four theories were used multiple times over this period, with seven unique theories used more than 10 times; most theories (82.1% of unique theories) were found oly once.
