Abstract

Fast fashion has encouraged overconsumption (for both adult clothing and children's wear) and the discarding of wearable apparel, resulting in landfill pollution. Naturally, Children require more clothing than adults. To resolve this situation, developing repurposed children’s wear from discarded adult clothes is necessary. This study aims to 1) identify the design process and materials designers use for developing repurposed children's wear, and 2) assess the consumer opinions of developed repurposed children’s wear. To fulfill these aims, the researchers administered an online survey, developed repurposed children’s wear, and assessed consumer opinions and willingness to purchase repurposed children’s wear via focus group interviews. They analyzed data using inductive content analysis. Results indicate that designers mostly use adult clothing as raw materials, with two repurposed methods: subtracting and additive. The consumers have positive opinions about the developed repurposed children’s wear.
