Abstract

A content analysis of user-generated reviews from 110 products of period underwear, adaptive underwear, and reusable pads across 15 brands to explore the functional , expressive, and aesthetic needs of women using reusable period products. The study was guided by the Functional, Expressive, and Aesthetic (FEA) Consumer Needs Model. Researchers coded 772 statements and identified key themes. Functional needs centered on ease of use, stability, pad coverage, absorbency, odor control, and comfort, with many users noted shifting pads, moisture retention, and limited coverage. Expressive needs included confidence, improved mood, and appreciation for sustainable alternatives, though some designs negatively affected self-esteem. Aesthetic needs focused on the desire for more colors, patterns, and supportive styles.

Keywords: adaptive apparel, period underwear, disabilities
