Harnessing AI in Fashion Education: A Systematic Literature Review and Future Directions
Abstract
This systematic review examines the nascent role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in fashion education, addressing the limited comprehensive research in this evolving field. The study employed a mixed-methods approach, using bibliometric and content analyses of five relevant papers selected from the Scopus database, following the PRISMA framework. Findings indicate that research is nascent, with a concentration of publications in 2024 and originating primarily from Asia. Current themes center on AI-driven innovations in design instruction, creative collaboration, and preparing students for industry skill demands. Thematic analysis shows a strong emphasis on generative design tools and student-centered learning. Key gaps exist in the study of AI applications within fashion marketing education and ethical considerations. The study recommends integrating generative AI, data analytics, and virtual simulation into curricula, alongside strengthening industry-academia collaboration, to cultivate AI-ready talent.
