PFAS-Free Clothing: How Does It Affect Product Availability?

Abstract

Using unique product-level data, this study examined the impact of adopting PFAS-free clothing on EU and U.S. retailers’ product assortment and pricing strategies. The study’s findings filled a critical research gap and significantly enhanced our understanding of the business impacts of regulating PFAS use in clothing from the retailers’ perspectives. The results also provide valuable input for fashion companies considering phasing out PFAS use and for policymakers developing effective policies to manage the use of PFAS in apparel.
