Abstract

The purpose of this paper was to introduce how an immersive learning project can be introduced in a content-rich (a great deal of information) course. For this immersive learning experience, students in a history of fashion course collaborated with students and faculty in the department to make a publicity event. The following procedure was employed: 1) the event was defined with partners; 2) the course was restructured to accommodate the event; 2) students were introduced to the project; 3) the students completed weekly activities that built up to the event; 4) the event was installed and implemented; and 5) students reflected upon their experiences with a post event survey and midterm course assessment survey.  The results of the surveys revealed an immersive learning experience integrated in a content-rich course can enhance traditional teaching approaches by providing a deep and memorable understanding of the topic.

Keywords: immersive learning, history of fashion, content rich course
