Upcycling education: Give your clothes an unintended second life
Abstract
This study examines the impact of an upcycling workshop on Gen Z’s sustainability awareness, attachment to their unwanted fashion items, and purchase intentions toward sustainable fashion items. An upcycling workshop, designed to transform unwanted clothing into new items, was conducted in a laboratory setting (N = 41). Paired sample t-tests revealed that the workshop significantly enhanced Gen Z’s sustainability awareness, attachment to their products, and interest in purchasing sustainable products. It is recommended that brands and retailers educate consumers by offering engaging sustainability-related workshops or events.
