Abstract

Dressing is a daily necessity that poses significant challenges for individuals with mobility-related disabilities. With an estimated 1.5 billion people globally living with disabilities, there is a pressing need for accessible clothing options. The current apparel market often overlooks these needs, impacting the dignity and independence of those affected. This research explores the integration of accessibility into apparel recommender systems to address these challenges. By conducting qualitative interviews and observational studies, we aim to understand the barriers faced by individuals with mobility-related disabilities. Collaborating with industry partners, we will develop innovative clothing adaptations and test prototypes with users. The findings will inform the creation of personalized recommender system algorithms that prioritize accessibility. This approach not only enhances the shopping experience for individuals with disabilities but also promotes the adoption of adaptive clothing in the fashion industry.
