Abstract

Digitalization is essential for business survival, playing a crucial role in enhancing speed, cost-effectiveness, flexibility, and sustainability throughout the fashion value chain. Recognizing its inevitability as a transformative trend in the industry, this study conducts a comprehensive review of existing research to present an overview of digital transformation technologies applied across key domains of the fashion value chain—product development, supply chain and distribution, and customer experience with a focus on circularity. The study examines their applications, associated challenges, and emerging opportunities throughout the value chain. By reviewing 86 peer-reviewed journal articles, the study identifies three primary application themes (streamlined operations, agile supply chains, and sustainable practices), three key challenges (technological barriers, organizational resistance, and data security concerns), and three prominent opportunities (data-driven insights, personalized customer experiences, and collaborative innovation). Implications are discussed.

Keywords: digitalization, transformation, fashion value chain, sustainability, meta-analysis
