Comparative Analysis of Environmentally Conscious Fiber Blends in Yoga Leggings: Exploring Comfort and Performance Factors

Abstract

 
This study evaluates the comfort and performance of yoga leggings made from environmentally conscious fiber blends, addressing the growing demand for sustainable and high-performance activewear. The research focuses on three specific fiber compositions: 90% bamboo and 10% Spandex, 84% recycled polyester and 16% Spandex, and 95% cotton and 5% elastane. These blends were selected based on their prevalence in the market and reputation as eco-friendly materials for athletic wear. Comprehensive testing was conducted to measure air permeability, evaporative resistance, antimicrobial properties, moisture management, and stretchability, revealing significant differences among the fiber compositions. Recycled polyester demonstrated superior air permeability and stretchability. Bamboo exhibited the highest moisture absorption rate, enhancing its appeal for comfort. However, despite claims by brands, none of the leggings showed significant antimicrobial properties. This study provides valuable insights into the potential of sustainable materials to meet the comfort and performance needs of yoga enthusiasts, encouraging eco-conscious choices.
